Massachusetts Food Safety Regulations

massachusetts state flagEvery food service establishment must have at least one Food Manager. One Certified Food Manager is required per establishment as the Person In Charge (PIC). When PIC is not present, an uncertified but food safety knowledgeable substitute must be present. The certified food manager must be at least 18 years of age.

 

Food Manager Certification

Required. No regulations on training or specific training but recommended.

 

Food Handler Certification

Strongly suggested. Not mandatory.

 

Cost

Check with a certified training course provider.

 

Certification Renewal

Food Manager – 5 years; Food Handler – 5 years.

 

Approved Courses

Prometric, ServSafe, National Registry of Food Safety Professionals (NRFSP), and 360 Training

 

Approved Options

Classroom, Online, or Pearson Testing Centers. Please check your local health department for the most up to date information.
