All employees in food service establishments who handle food must obtain a food handler card from authorized training programs or from the San Diego County food handler test. The cost for a food handler card is $3 and is valid for three years. If you lose your card, you must contact the training school at which you obtained your original card and purchase a replacement. A full list of approved training courses are listed here.
Certified Food Manager Requirement
The state of California also requires that each food service establishment have one owner, manager, or employee who is a certified food manager. Each certificate is only applicable to one location and the certification is valid for five years. A list of approved certification/training courses can be found here.
